After a starkly intimate acapella intro, the title track from Brother Ali’s upcoming LP segues into an uplifting track with background vocals nodding to gospel and horns tipping their hat to soul. Though “Us” doesn’t really lead the listener anywhere, the track is an intriguing curio that doubles as origin story—and, like most successful orgin stories, it leaves the listener wondering how the tale will exactly end.
