Local: The Chambermaids - “Lily”
*MP3: The Chambermaids - “Lily”
One of MPLS’ best up-and-coming bands, The Chambermaids, released their latest record Down In The Berries, recently, and they’ve been racking up great notices, the most recent of which comes courtesy of Radio K, who make an interesting comparison between the quartet and blog-buzzed Brooklyn-based The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. To wit:
Those NYC Pitchfork darlings should take note: The Chambermaids have struck that delicate balance between sounding new but familiar, unique but evocative, and faintly nostalgic but still relevant (which is probably what also makes friends and labelmates Vampire Hands so appealing)
The comparison is intriguing, but it’s one I don’t necessarily hear. On “Lily,” posted on the review, I hear the harmonious tones and lo-fi scrap of the Vivian Girls, as well as the post-punk ramshackle of Sleater-Kinney. But here’s one thing that Radio K and I agree on: The Chambermaids a worth a listen. Check out “Lily” at the top of the post.
