To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie Score A 7.7 On Pitchfork
*MP3: To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie - “In Peoples’ Homes”
Having scored a not-too-shabby 6.8 for their previous effort, 2007’s capitalist cautionary tale The Patron, MPLS-based electronic duo To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie have returned today with their follow-up effort, titled Marlone, released today. So how did they fare with the ‘Fork crowd? Why, by scoring a very solid 7.7. Here’s an excerpt of Joe Cally’s review:
The real appeal of The Patron was the captivating interplay between the group’s two members, the way (electronic sound manipulator Mark) McGee laid a foundation of interwoven post-rock textures over which (singer Jenna) Wilhelm could paint her ghostly vocals. With new LP Marlone, the group has smartly jettisoned the storyboard conceptualism of its previous work for a deeper exploration of this sound, and the album is more assured and focused as a result.
Cally then goes on to praise the sequencing of the record, calling it “superb.” They only real knock against TKAPB is that their sound is not original. Read the rest here, and listen to “In Peoples’ Homes” at the top of the post.
